There are three types of mica deposits in the 4 pegmatites of the no. 2 quarry: pod, wall-zone, and disseminated. Pegmatite A has a concentration of books as much as 1 foot in diameter, Pegmatite B exhibits a lean book mica-bearing zone composed of quartz, albite, and muscovite. The books are 3 to 4 inches in average diameter.   Mica pegmatites from the Bihar Mica Belt contain three distinct generations of tourmaline. The major-element composition, substitution vectors and trajectories within each group are different, which indicates that the three types of tourmalines are not a part of one evolutionary series. Rather, the differences in their chemistries as well their Cited by: 4.

The Lewisian Gneiss Complex of north-west Scotland represents the margin of the North Atlantic Craton, comprising Archaean TTG gneisses that were variably reworked during the Palaeoproterozoic (Peach et al., , Sutton and Watson, ).It crops out both on the west coast of the Scottish mainland and on the islands of the Outer Hebrides, and has been divided by recent workers into a number Cited by: associated mainly with the nearby Guffey volcanic center. Pegmatites intrude Precambrian metamorphic rocks. Minerals reported from the pegmatites include large “books” of muscovite mica, pink microcline masses as much as 10 feet across, cordierite, white albite, biotite, apatite, schorl, garnet, beryl File Size: 1MB.

Mica is widely distributed and occurs in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary regimes. Large crystals of mica used for various applications are typically mined from granitic pegmatites. Scrap and flake mica is produced all over the world. The commercially important micas are muscovite and phlogopite, which are used in a variety of applications.

MICA AND BERYL PEGMATITES IN IDAHO AND MONTANA By w. STOLL ABSTRACT In Idaho, pegmatites occur in the metamorphic rocks of the Belt series, of Algonkian age, and in the marginal parts of granodioritic batholiths intruded during late Jurassic or early Cretaceous time.

Many of the more unusual minerals of the Brown Derby pegmatites have been studied in detail (Table 1). The chief purpose of this paper is to present a chemical and paragenetic study of the micas of the Brown Derby pegmatites and to discuss their origin.

The book starts with a detailed account of the economic geology of the various pegmatites, explaining why these deposits are a major resource of ceramic raw materials. In its concluding section, a model of the pegmatite evolution in an ensialic orogen provides meaningful insights into the genetic aspects of pegmatite generation.

Mica is found to occur in book form in pegmatites intruding mica schists. The presence or absence of orthoclase feldspar indicates the chances of finding mica in the pegmatite.

Pegmatites are holocrystalline rocks typically composed of igneous rock-forming minerals that are, in part, very coarse grained, although some are extremely varied in grain size (Jahns, ). They are commonly granitic in composition, consisting mainly of quartz, feldspar, and mica, but more mafic varieties composed of olivine, pyroxene, and.

Mica is widely distributed and occurs in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary regimes. Large crystals of mica used for various applications are typically mined from granitic pegmatites. Until the 19th century, large crystals of mica were quite rare and expensive as a result of the limited supply in ry: Phyllosilicates.

Concentration of muscovite around xenoliths of country rock in the pegmatites i common. Muscovite occurs in shades of green and ruby. Swaminathan (I93O), who gave analyses, reported books of mica measuring as much as ' IO feet along the basal planes, and 15 feet along the folia'.
